Digital Desk: A man was arrested in Bihar for reportedly marrying a Class 6 student after her family failed to pay off a loan on time. For three months, the girl was forced to live in the house of the 40-year-old accused as his second wife. He was arrested after the crime came to light after the victim's mother lodged a complaint at the Mariwa police station.
The family of the 14-year-old girl reportedly owes Mahendra Pandey Rs. 2 lakhs. The money had been taken from him as a loan, but the family, who live in Siwan district's Laxmipur hamlet, was unable to return it on time.
Taking advantage, Mahendra Pandey reportedly, threatened the family and forced them to send the little girl to his residence. As per reports, the man assured her parents that he would help her with her studies at his home but secretly married her. The accused is claimed to be a distant relative of the girl, as per reports.
After learning about the marriage, the girl's mother went to the police station and filed a complaint. When questioned, Mahendra Pandey admitted to his crime and was charged under the relevant sections of the Child Marriage Act and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. Later, he was remanded for 14 days.
As the girl had been living for around three months at the accused house, she was taken to the doctor for a medical examination. The police informed the press that they had yet to record her statement.
