Bizarre! Man marries his own sister to get government scheme benefits

Lucknow: There is a section of people in the society who can go to any lengths to get the advantage of Government schemes, even after not standing eligible as a beneficiary for the particular scheme. In one such incident, a man from Uttar Pradesh’s Firozabad married his own sister at a mass marriage event to obtain money from the Mukhyamantri Samuhik Vivaah Yojana scheme, under which weddings are conducted by the social welfare department.

Under the mass wedding scheme, the state government gives Rs 35,000 for each couple apart from household gifts given to them. As per the scheme details, Rs 20,000 are deposited in the brides bank account and gifts worth Rs 10,000 are also given.

The bizarre marriage was reported in Tundla in Firozabad on December 11 and came to light only when the local villagers identified the married couple as siblings from their village.

The event was organized on the premises of the Tundla Block Development Office in which 51 other couples were also married.
