Digital Desk: Delhi chief minister, Arvind Kejriwal, said that the CBI and ED were torturing people in order to obtain his and Manish Sisodia's names in the Delhi liquor policy scam case. In a news conference today, the Delhi CM claimed, "CBI and ED filed fake affidavits in the excise policy case in court; they are torturing individuals to testify against Manish Sisodia and me." Moreover, he listed a number of people who claimed to have been beaten and tortured.
During the press conference, Kejriwal stated that the central agencies provided fake evidence in court and attempted to deceive the court.
"The ED and CBI claimed that Sisodia destroyed evidence by breaking 14 of his mobile phones; however, according to the ED's seizure memo, four of them are with them and one is with the CBI. The remaining phones are also functioning and in use by other people," Kejriwal claimed, adding that the agencies took a Rs 100 crore bribe and raided 400 places but found nothing.
The national convenor of the Aam Aadmi Party stated that he knew he would be summoned by the CBI. "No party has targeted more than the AAP in the last 75 years. People now have hope for quality education," he added.
Speaking about the now-withdrawn liquor policy, Kejriwal called it "great" and said it would have put an end to corruption.
Meanwhile, in a press conference, the BJP's national spokesperson said, "Arvind Kejriwal started trembling with fear the moment the CBI summoned him. The evidence thus far indicates that Arvind Kejriwal is the mastermind of the liquor scam."
On April 16, the Central Bureau of Investigation summoned the Delhi CM in connection with the now-scrapped liquor policy case. He was summoned to the federal investigation agency's headquarters on Sunday at 11 a.m.
The CBI has already detained former Delhi deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia in connection with the case. He was also detained by the ED in a money laundering case relating to the alleged excise scam.
After the excise policy 2021–22 was dropped in August last year, the Delhi Lieutenant Governor asked the CBI to investigate potential irregularities.
The CBI has claimed that the Delhi government's excise policy for 2021-22, which grants licences to liquor traders, favoured particular dealers who reportedly paid bribes for it, an allegation vehemently denied by the AAP. Afterwards, the policy was revoked.
