Desk: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) summoned
four customs officers for questioning in connection with the Bengal cattle
smuggling case on Monday. The officers, who hold the ranks of assistant
commissioner and deputy commissioner, have been summoned to the CBI office in
Kolkata's Nizam Palace on 5 April.

Saturday, and the four customs officers were summoned to be questioned by the
central probe agency.
During the
investigation, the role of these officers was scrutinized by the investigating
agency, and after receiving credible information, several teams of the CBI
raided these officers' homes.
color:black">Several documents were seized by the CBI during the raids, and the
four officers were asked to bring their bank documents with them. The CBI has
requested bank statements for the previous ten years from the officers. This is
the first time officers from the customs department have been questioned by a
central investigative agency such as the CBI.
color:black">According to sources, the CBI should question the officers about
how huge amounts of cattle were smuggled year after year despite the customs
department's strict monitoring.
The initial investigation
into the case resulted in the questioning and subsequent arrest of a BSF
commandant named Satish Kumar for his direct involvement in the cattle
smuggling case.
