West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee underwent knee surgery on Thursday in Kolkata...
Digital Desk: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee underwent knee surgery on Thursday at Kolkata's SSKM Hospital. The surgery comes in the wake of an injury she suffered last week after the helicopter she was traveling in had to make an emergency landing due to bad weather.
Reportedly, CM Banerjee had suffered a ligament injury in her left knee, due to which she had to undergo surgery. She had gone to the hospital for a check-up earlier in the day. She had swelling in the left knee joint, which was probably due to an excessive amount of fluid accumulating in or around it.
"There is swelling in her left knee joint, which could be due to excess fluid collection in or around that area. "We need to see if that requires surgery or not," a senior doctor part of the team treating her earlier told PTI.

It should be mentioned that Mamata Banerjee was also hurt in her left hip joint while exiting a chopper that had to make an emergency landing at Sevoke airbase last week owing to bad weather. Her doctors had prescribed rest and limited movement.
Since then, CM Mamata has been undergoing physiotherapy at her house in Kalighat.
According to reports, doctors treating Mamata Banerjee recommended microsurgery to relieve her knee problems. The CM arrived at the hospital at about 2 p.m. for a check-up, and doctors performed a city scan on her left knee before the microsurgery. Mamata Banerjee was admitted to SSKM hospital's Woodburn block and lodged in a VVIP cabin.
