Digital Desk: Police said on Friday that five people were killed and four others were injured after their car collided with a truck from behind on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway near Khopoli in Maharashtra's Raigad district.
According to authorities, the accident happened in Dheku village around Thursday midnight.
"The automobile was travelling from Pune to Mumbai when it collided with the truck from behind at noon. The car had nine passengers, while four people died on the scene, and another died from injuries while being transported to a hospital," according to a police station officer in Khopoli.
According to the police official, all of the deceased were men, while one of the four injured was a woman. The four people have been admitted to MGM Hospital in Kamothe, Panvel, and are being treated there.
According to initial investigations, it has been reported that the driver of the car lost control, causing the vehicle to collide with the truck. As per the authorities, an offence was reported against the driver, and further investigation is continuing.
Meanwhile, four people were murdered and four others were injured in an accident on the Yamuna Expressway in Uttar Pradesh last week.
The injured were transferred to the district hospital in Mathura for treatment. The accident occurred when two cars collided on Milestone 87 of the Yamuna Expressway, near the Surir Police Station in Mathura.
