New Delhi: Union Science and Technology Minister Jitendra Singh announced that India will launch its much-awaited human spaceflight mission ‘Gaganyaan’ in 2023.
Earlier, the mission was set to launch on August 2022 to mark 75 years of India’s independence, but the coronavirus-induced pandemic forced a delay in its timeline.
Additionally, while replying to supplementary questions during questions hours in Rajya Sabha, the minister said that India plans to set up a space station by 2030, which will be a one-of-a-kind space station.

Sharing the other space projects, the minister said that before the launch of the ‘Gaganyaan,’ India will send two unnamed missions towards the end of 2022, accompanied by robots that have been named as ‘Vayumitra.’
With the success of the ‘Gaganyaan’ mission, India will enter into the elite category, being the fourth after the US, China and Russia, he said.
Further asserting the achievements of the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO), the minister said that along with ‘Gaganyaan,’ work is underway for Venus Mission, Solar Mission and Chandrayaan.
As per official reports, the main motive to launch ‘Gaganyaan’ is to demonstrate the capability of the Indian Launcher Rocket to send humans into Low Earth Orbit (LEO) and bring them back to earth safely.
ISRO has launched 42 satellites from 34 countries for which the country has got a foreign exchange of 56 million US dollars, reports said.
