    Change of heart: APSC exam will be conducted in Assamese too, says CM Sarma

    Guwahati: Facing flak after the recent decision by the state government to do away with Assamese from APSC exam, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma while addressing a presser today, stated that the exams will now be conducted in Assamese too.





    Addressing a press conference at Administrative Staff College in Guwahati, the Chief Minister said that if the IAS exam can be conducted in English language, then why ACS exam cannot be conducted in Assamese.

    “From next year, the APSC exam will be held in Assamese too,” the chief minister said adding that all the subjects can be written in Assamese.





    He further stated that the students applying for ACS should be a permanent resident of the state. CM Sarma also urged English medium schools to teach Assamese language in their schools.





    It may be mentioned here that state cabinet had decided upon doing away with Assamese from APSC exam, during a recent cabinet meet. The decision did not go down well with the people of the state. Different organizations, unions and even the opposition party raised voices against the decision, terming this as an unfortunate incident which will endanger the Assamese language in its own state.
