Chennai Book Fair: 20k online tickets sold amid pandemic
Digital Desk: According to the organizers of the Chennai Book Fair, Despite pandemic fears, the 45th Chennai Book Fair has sold over 20,000 tickets online as of Saturday morning.

The book fair will be held at Nandanam YMCA grounds from February 16 to March 6 by the Booksellers and Publishers Association of South India (BAPASI).

BAPASI secretary SK Murugan informed the media that this is the highest online sales figure ever. The book fair is usually held during the Tamil Margazhi month (mid-December to mid-January) when thousands of travelers flock to the city for artistic events at sabhas and music institutes and the gorgeous climate.

"However, due to the third Covid-19 wave, the Chennai book fair was delayed this year. Yet, given how significant this is, we foresee a positive comeback."

This commitment arises from the point that more than 80% of the event's infrastructure is in place. "The central arbor, which spans 3 lakh sq ft and can adapt 800 stalls, is now complete. Apart from that, the washrooms and stage for circumstances in which visitors will participate are prepared," Murugan stated.

According to State government rule, the number of stalls has been cut from 1,000 to 800 due to the pandemic. However, according to the secretary, over one lakh titles are designed to be portrayed, and programs are being pushed to establish bookstalls in the YMCA grounds.

Guests should even wear gloves, according to the organizers. Each stall will be functional for 10 to 15 minutes, and only three individuals will be allowed in at a time. The fair will be relaxed from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.
