Digital Desk: A few days after Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma criticized the Congress president for attempting to meet with Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the party's manifesto, Mallikarjun Kharge claimed he had spoken with the Prime Minister and the BJP leader should not be bothered.
Speaking to the media on Saturday in Assam, Kharge stated, "I have spoken with Modi, not the chief minister. In the Rajya Sabha, I am the Leader of the Opposition. I was also in Lok Sabha. So, I have some competence in parliamentary affairs. So, who is my opponent in Parliament? Modi. So, I will speak to Modi. Why is he (Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma) bothered? Let him face our people here and then speak about me."
Sarma took a dig at Kharge on Thursday after the Congress leader wrote to Prime Minister Modi to request more time to clarify the party's manifesto. Kharge should join the BJP, the former Congress leader had stated.
"PM Modi can read and write English very well. The Congress has written its manifesto in both Hindi and English. Why is there a need for supplementary communication? Why now, of all times, should Kharge and the BJP meet?" Sarma stated to ANI.
"Kharge is free to join the BJP if he so chooses, and I will go to his house and provide an escort if necessary. Otherwise, what is the need for him to meet with the PM?" the Assam CM added.

Kharge addressed the Prime Minister on X and wrote, "You are being misinformed by your advisors about things that are not even written in our manifesto."
In response, he mentioned what Prime Minister Modi had said during a Rajasthani electoral rally. In regard to the Muslim minority, the prime minister claimed that the Congress manifesto said the party would divide the riches of the country between "infiltrators" and "those who have more children."
"They will determine how much silver and gold our sisters own. A woman's self-esteem is symbolized by the gold, which is not only for show. Their dreams are linked to the value of mangalsutra, which extends beyond the cost of gold. Congress is discussing taking it away," the prime minister had stated.
