Digital Desk: Thousands of Indian students, largely studying engineering and medical, are stranded in Ukraine as the conflict escalates. The vast majority come from Rajasthan, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Kerala, and Punjab.
A petition was sent to the President's Secretariat on behalf of certain parents and students from Rajasthan's Kota division to secure the students' safety.
In Ukraine, almost 20,000 students are enrolled. There are around 40 students from Kota, and over 1,000 students from Rajasthan.
Charmesh Sharma, a Congress politician from Bundi who helps Indians in difficulty overseas, has petitioned President Ramnath Kovind to order the government to send the thousands of Indian students back.
“Indians from all over the country have gone there to study in medical and engineering universities. Students from Rajasthan and other states studying at Zaporizhzhia State Medical University are in distress,” said Sharma.
According to Sharma, a student wrote to him that all countries are evacuating their populations, but they are unaware of the Indian government's intentions.
According to sources, the majority of the students live in western Ukraine, while the eastern front is tense. Indians choose Ukraine because admissions are easy and less expensive than in India.
