Couple take cooking vessel journey to get hitched in Kerala amid flood

Kerala: A couple from Kerala took a cooking vessel to reach the temple amid the flood for their marriage ceremony. Due to the flood, Akash and Aishwarya, hailing from Alappuzha district, had to sail on the cooking vessel to the temple at Thalavady.

Several regions of the Alappuzha district, particularly the Kuttanad areas, are under a heavy deluge. The region experiences flood even when it rains in the nearby areas as around 10 rivers join with the Vembanad lake that extends close to Kuttanad.

The couple stated that they invited fewer people for their marriage ceremony due to the pandemic. When they had a look at the temple earlier, it was all fine. However, due to the flood surge, the temple got surrounded by water in two days.

They further said that they decided to get married on Monday. Since that's an auspicious occasion, they thought of going ahead with the ceremony. They were not willing to delay the marriage for the flood issues.

On Sunday, Akash received a call from the temple. They asked whether he was willing to delay the wedding as the venue was covered with flood water.

Both of them are health workers on COVID duty. They were unsure when they would get a holiday later. So they decided to do it on that very day. The temple authorities agreed to make the required arrangements to transport them to the venue.

Akash and Aishwarya are working at a hospital in Chengannur.
