‘Crime against humanity’: Manipur CM on video of women being paraded naked, raped

Since it has been around three months the government has not taken any steps to bring things down...

Digital desk: A day after a video showing two women being gang-raped while being paraded in public in Manipur surfaced online Chief Minister of Manipur, N Biren Singh, referred to the incident as "a crime against humanity".

Speaking about the viral video, Biren Singh said, “I felt bad after watching the video; it's a crime against humanity. I quickly gave the police orders to detain the offenders, and the state government would work to secure the accused's execution. Everyone individual must condemn it.”

Tensions are high in the northeastern state of Manipur after a two-month-old video of two women being paraded in public naked circulated online on Wednesday. The incident took place on May 4 in Kangpokpi district, a day after violence broke out in the northeastern state. The video has sparked massive outrage drawing criticism from all over the country.

The police took immediate action on Thursday morning and arrested the primary suspect, Heradas (32).

Biren Singh expressed his sympathy for the two women in the horrific video that surfaced yesterday by writing on Twitter, "My emotions go out to the two women who were subjected to deeply rude and barbaric conduct. The Manipur Police sprang into action and made the first arrest this morning after taking a Suo-moto cognizance of the incident shortly after the video aired.”

But there the question arises that, since it has been around three months the government has not taken any steps to bring things down.

As Prime Minister Narendra Modi also said that his heart is full of pain and anger or he also made remarks ahead of the Parliament’s Monsoon Session, adding that what happened to the daughters of Manipur can never be forgiven but somehow till today the government has not taken such action which should have been taken a month ago.
