Digital Desk: The Western Railway said in a release that it has short-terminated more than 50 trains going to coastal parts of Gujarat and is likely cancelling many trains over the next three days as strong cyclone Biparjoy' draws closer to the Gujarat coast.
The release on Monday stated that the WR is taking several steps, including establishing support desks, and emergency management rooms, and maintaining available relief trains.
According to the announcement, station masters have been directed to control or stop trains when the wind velocity surpasses 50 kmph. The wind speed is being monitored at five places in the Bhavnagar division, at eight sites in Rajkot, and at three locations in the Ahmedabad division on an hourly basis.

Up to 56 trains have been short-terminated at
Ahmedabad, Rajkot, and Surendranagar on their way to Gandhidham, Veraval, Okha, and Porbandar in coastal Gujarat. According to the announcement, there are plans to cancel 95 trains between June 13 and June 15.
According to WR's
chief public relations officer (CPRO), Sumit Thakur, passenger trains planned to run in the risk areas beginning on June 12 are currently being evaluated, and any necessary action will be taken.
To ensure passenger safety and train operations, several trains have been cancelled or short-terminated, according to Thakur.
Cyclone Biparjoy is expected to make landfall in Gujarat's Saurashtra and Kutch areas, affecting the Western Railway's Bhavnagar, Rajkot, and Ahmedabad divisions.
The WR has taken several safety and security measures because the parts along Veraval-Junagad, Porbandar-Kanalus, Rajkot-Okha, and Viramgam-Gandhidham-Bhuj are the most vulnerable to this cyclone, the release stated.
In a virtual meeting with senior officials, WR general manager Ashok Kumar Misra reviewed the cyclone preparations and issued the necessary instructions regarding the arrangements of various logistics and train movement, including speed restrictions and train cancellation as a safety and precautionary measure.
With immediate effect and until June 16, all terminals in the Ahmedabad, Rajkot, and Bhavnagar divisions will be subject to restrictions on both inbound and outbound Double Stack Container (DSC) movement.
In addition to divisional headquarters at Bhavnagar, Rajkot, and Ahmedabad, a disaster management room has been established at the Western Railway headquarters in Mumbai. They are connected by hotlines that have been guaranteed to work properly.
The announcement stated that the affected divisions have been placed on alert to handle the crisis with preparations for tree-cutting equipment, DG sets, diesel-driven pumps, earth-moving equipment, Poclain, JCBs, utility cars, enough fuel supplies, etc.
There are sufficient medical supplies on board and relief trains are constantly monitored.
According to the press release, help desks have been set up in Bhavnagar, Porbandar, Veraval, and Junagadh in the Bhavnagar Division; Okha, Dwarka, Khambhaliya, Jamnagar, Hapa, Surendranagar, and Morbi in the Rajkot Division; and Gandhidham and Bhuj in the Ahmedabad Division.
