Cyclone Mocha: West Bengal authorities on high alert, 3 killed in Myanmar
Local media stated that hundreds of thousands of residents in Rakhine State had already been evacuated before the typhoon.

Digital Desk: Cyclone Mocha, the first cyclonic storm of the year, has developed over the southeast Bay of Bengal. Atmospheric conditions are very conducive for Cyclone Mocha to intensify further.

Experts attribute the problem to a warming ocean that feeds stronger storms than ever before, endangering the region with landslides, flooding, and destructive winds that could potentially affect hundreds of thousands of people.

West Bengal's authorities are currently on high alert. Due to the dense population along its beaches, the Indian Ocean region, which includes the Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal, is of particular concern.

After making landfall, the extremely dangerous cyclonic storm Mocha is now moving north from the Bay of Bengal, according to the Department of Meteorology and Hydrology of Myanmar. According to local officials, local rescue teams were working together with emergency response teams to undertake rescue operations in the cyclone-affected areas. This is according to Xinhua news agency.

They claimed to have sent out 10 emergency rescue teams and 112 vehicles on Saturday, along with supplies of food, water, and equipment for rescue, to Rakhine State and the states and regions around it.

Local media stated that hundreds of thousands of residents in Rakhine State had already been evacuated before the typhoon.

The weather service predicts that Chin State and the Magway Region will be affected by the extremely severe cyclonic storm that is travelling north and northeast.

The weather service also predicted that the storm would pass through the Sagaing Region on Monday as a cyclonic storm before losing strength and becoming a depression.

In the townships of Rakhine State, the gusts from Cyclone Mocha, which made landfall on the beaches of Bangladesh and Myanmar on Sunday with winds of up to 130 mph (approximately 209 kph), tore off tin roofs and uprooted trees.

It stated that all fishing boats, trawlers, and other seagoing vessels had already been instructed to stay under shelter until further notice.

After towns in Myanmar recently suffered record-high temperatures during a scorching heatwave, Cyclone Mocha hit the region.

The first cyclone of this year to form in the Bay of Bengal is exceedingly severe, and it is expected to be the strongest storm to ever affect the area.

Cyclone Mocha, which had winds of up to 130 mph (209 km/h), made landfall in Myanmar's Rakhine province on Sunday, leaving at least three people dead and numerous buildings and infrastructures destroyed, according to the nation's meteorological department, which was quoted by the Associated Press.
