Digital Desk: The International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) has ranked India as the 48th safest country in the world, according to the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) officials on Saturday.
Four years ago, India was ranked 102nd in the world.
The country's score for effective implementation of important safety aspects has risen to 85.49%, placing it ahead of China at 49, Israel in 50, and Turkey at 54.
India received a score of 69.95% in the 2018 Universal Safety Oversight Audit Programme.
"Maintaining the newly acquired status is difficult. "We guarantee all our stakeholders that the DGCA (Directorate General of Civil Aviation) will go to whatever length to improve India's position," said Arun Kumar, director general of the DGCA.
The higher score indicates that India's air safety processes have improved. Better aircraft safety in domestic skies also encourages Indian carriers to expand faster in international markets because new service licences are easier to get.
The audit was carried out by the United Nations agency from November 9 to 16 in areas such as legislation, organisation, personal licence, operations, airworthiness, and airport. "ICAO did not examine two categories, aircraft accident and investigation and air navigation," Kumar added.
"The team also visited Delhi airport, SpiceJet, a charter operator, air traffic control, communication navigation, and surveillance to ensure that laws were being observed," he said.
India's civil aviation organisation score increased from 63.64% to 72.73%, in terms of personnel licencing and training it increased from 25.58% to 84.71%, aircraft operations increased from 80.34% to 97.44%, aircraft airworthiness increased from 90.20% to 97.06%, and aerodrome and ground aids increased from 72.36% to 92.68%.
