Digital Desk: A massive avalanche hit the Afarwat peak at the famous ski resort in Jammu and Kashmir's Baramulla district on Wednesday, killing at least two foreigners and trapping several others.
According to the Baramulla Police, reports of some skiers being trapped are being confirmed.
The police, along with other agencies, have launched a rescue operation.
During the rescue operations, 21 people were rescued, including 19 foreign nationals and two local guides.
The district police said in a statement that three teams of twenty-one foreign nationals and two local guides went skiing at Affarwat Gulmarg earlier today.
The skiing teams were trapped in Gulmarg's Hapatkhud Kangdori, where the people went skiing.
Twenty-one of the trapped twenty-three people were rescued by the Jammu Kashmir Police and the tourism department.
Two foreign nationals were killed.
Their bodies were taken to a hospital for further medical and legal examinations.
Senior police officers are on the scene monitoring the rescue efforts, according to the police.
"Avalanche hit the Afarwat peak Hapath Khud at famous ski resort in Gulmarg. Rescue operation has been launched by Baramulla Police along with other agencies. Reports of some skiers being trapped are being corroborated," the Baramulla district police tweeted.
