Digital Desk: Delhi Police on Sunday arrested two individuals connected to a coaching centre in Old Rajender Nagar where three UPSC aspirants tragically lost their lives. The deceased were trapped in the institute's basement, which had been inundated with water.

The victims have been identified as Shreya Yadav from Uttar Pradesh’s Ambedkar Nagar, Tanya Soni from Telangana, and Nivin Dalwin from Kerala’s Ernakulam. Delhi Police have confirmed that the bodies have been sent to Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital (RML) for postmortem. The arrests made include the owner and coordinator of the coaching centre, who are now in custody.

Former Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) Chief Swati Maliwal has publicly criticized the system, accusing it of corruption and negligence. In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Maliwal questioned who would be held accountable for the students' deaths and alleged that the operation of illegal basements in the city involves bribery and corruption. “Students had been requesting drain cleaning for ten days without any response,” Maliwal stated. She further alleged that the presence of illegal basements, extra floors, and road encroachments only occurs due to corrupt practices and bribery.

Maliwal also drew attention to a recent incident in Patel Nagar, where deaths caused by electric shocks highlighted similar systemic failures. She criticized officials for their inaction and called out their tendency to conduct press conferences rather than addressing the underlying issues.

This tragic incident underscores broader concerns about safety regulations and enforcement in Delhi, particularly about illegal constructions and infrastructural deficiencies. The situation remains under investigation as authorities work to address the public outcry and prevent future tragedies.
