Delhi NCR experiences significant temperature drops due to heavy rain

An AQI of 0 to 50 is regarded as "excellent," 51 to 100 as "acceptable," 101 to 200 as "moderate," 201 to 300 as "poor," 301 to 400 as "extremely poor," and 401 to 500 as "severe."

    Digital Desk: The national capital
region (NCR), which includes Delhi, awoke to thundershowers and heavy rainfall
on Thursday. This brought the temperature down significantly and gave residents
comfort from the humid weather they had been suffering from for the previous
    several days.

    According
to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), today will likely be
"usually cloudy with moderate rain" in Delhi, with a possible maximum
temperature decrease to 34 degrees Celsius. The prognosis from the Met
department predicts that Thursday's low will remain around 27 degrees Celsius.

    On
Wednesday, the average high temperature was 40.9 degrees Celsius, which is four
degrees higher than average for this time of year. Yesterday's low temperature
was 27.6 degrees Celsius, which is typical for this time of year. For the next
two to three days, the city is expected to experience continued mild to
moderate showers, according to the weather service.

    According
to the website of the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), Delhi's morning
air quality fell into the "moderate" category in terms of pollution.
At 8 am on Thursday, the hourly air quality index (AQI) was 155, which is in
the middle of the "moderate" range. On Wednesday, the average 24-hour
AQI was 163, which is in the middle of the moderate category.

    An
AQI of 0 to 50 is regarded as "excellent," 51 to 100 as
"acceptable," 101 to 200 as "moderate," 201 to 300 as
"poor," 301 to 400 as "extremely poor," and 401 to 500 as
    "severe."

    The
Union Ministry of Earth Sciences' air quality monitoring facility, Safar,
reported on Thursday that the air quality was "moderate," with PM10
being the main pollutant. Over 2.5 micrometer-sized dust makes up over 53% of
PM10. For the next 3 days (till July 2), peak wind speed is likely to be 20-25
km/hr, causing moderate dispersion, and the AQI is likely to be within
the‘moderate’ or ‘upper end of satisfactory' range due to expected rain spells
on July 1. Moderate temperature (35°C) and mixing layer height (2-2.5 km)
maintain moderate convection ventilation, improving air quality.
