Digital Desk: Four laws enacted by the Parliament during its monsoon session received President Droupadi Murmu's approval. The bills are the Jan Vishwas (Amendment of Provisions) Bill, the Registration of Births and Deaths (Amendment) Bill, the Digital Personal Data Protection Bill, and the Registration of Births and Deaths (Amendment) Bill.
The Rajya Sabha had previously passed the bill concerning Delhi government personnel, including appointments and transfers, granting additional control to the Centre over the activities in the national capital, dealing a blow to the Arvind Kejriwal government and the unity of the opposition.
The ruling coalition received 131 votes in favor of the bill, which would establish a body to oversee transfers and disciplinary actions against bureaucrats from the Delhi, Andaman and Nicobar, Lakshadweep, Daman and Diu, and Dadra and Nagar Haveli (Civil) Services (DANICS) cadre, while 102 MPs voted against it.
The bill was already passed, on August 3, by Lok Sabha where the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has the majority.
The newly formed coalition of 26 opposition parties, including the Congress, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Trinamool Congress, DMK, and Sharad Pawar's NCP, might be considered as having suffered its first setback as a result of the bill's approval in Parliament. In the Rajya Sabha, where the BJP-led NDA does not have a majority, the opposition was hoping to defeat the bill, but organizations like the YSCRP and the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) stepped in to save the ruling alliance.
