Delhi court summons Rajasthan CM Ashok Gehlot in a defamation case

Rajasthan CM Ashok Gehlot has been summoned to appear before the Rouse Avenue Court in New Delhi...

Digital Desk: Delhi's Rouse Avenue court has summoned Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot to appear in a defamation case filed by Union Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat in connection with a Rs 900 crore credit society fraud. He has been asked to appear before the Rouse Avenue Court in Delhi on August 7.

Justice Harjeet Singh Jaspal, the MP-MLA court's Special Judge, issued the summons.

The Rouse Avenue Court had previously held off on deciding whether to call the chief minister in the criminal defamation case.

Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, Union Jal Shakti Minister, filed a petition with the Rouse Avenue Court in April, stating that the chief minister defamed him and wrongly claimed him of being engaged in the Rs 900-crore Sanjivani Credit Society scam. When the Rajasthan government investigated the case, Shekhawat clearly stated that his name did not appear anywhere.

Shekhawat urged that Gehlot be prosecuted for criminal defamation under the Indian Penal Code and that he be compensated financially for the loss of his reputation.
