    Delhi reduces number of 'dry days', liquor shops to remain open on festive season
    Digital Desk: On Monday, the Delhi government decided to reduce the number of dry days. The existing number of 'dry days' stood at 21 days; however, these days have been revised.

    According to the latest excise policy, liquor stores and opium vends in the national capital will stay shut only on three national holidays -- Republic Day (January 26), Independence Day (August 15) and Gandhi Jayanti on October 2.

    However, the excise department expressed the limitation on the sale of liquor on dry days will not use to benefit alcohol to residents in the case of hotels, including L-15 licenses. L-15 license permits resort to serve alcohol to visitors in their rooms.

    "In pursuance of the requirements of Rule 52 of Delhi Excise Rules, 2010, it is at this moment demanded that the next dates shall be regarded as "Dry Day" in the National Capital Territory of Delhi by all the licensees of the Excise department and opium vends located in Delhi for the year 2022," the department's order noted.

    Previously, the dry days numbered 21, including the birth anniversary of prominent leaders and spiritual celebrations. The enterprise premises of a licensee will be held shut on these days.

    The order administered on Monday stated that apart from the three dry days, the state may declare any additional day in the year as 'Dry Day' from time to time.

    The decision attracted acclaim from the hospitality enterprise but received objection from opponent BJP and Congress.
