    First-ever cargo train stationed in Manipur, 75 years after independence
    Digital Desk: The country’s railway map has got a new addition just after a cargo train stationed at the Rani Gaidinliu Railway Station in Goinanglong of Tamenglong district, in Manipur.

    Sharing it to the Twitter Chief Minister of Manipur N Biren Singh tweeted, “In yet another milestone, the first-ever Goods Train reached Rani Gaidinliu Railway Station, Tamenglong. The improvement in railway connectivity, under the close supervision of Hon’ PM Sh @narendramodi Ji, will immensely improve the socio-economic condition of Manipur,”

    The authorities believe that the border hilly area will witness infrastructural development, better connectivity, and overall prosperity of the region.

    Earlier in the month of January, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw tweeted pictures of his aerial survey of the Jiribam-Imphal new railway line project in Manipur.

    The project, which includes the country's longest train tunnel, will connect Imphal with Guwahati.

    He said that ₹ 7,000 crores has been allocated this year for ongoing railway projects in the northeast.

    Prime Minister, Narendra Modi also reacted to a post which was shared by Tourism, Culture, and Development of North Eastern Region Minister G Kishan Reddy. He tweeted “Transformation of the Northeast continues. Manipur’s connectivity will be enhanced and commerce will be boosted”.

    He added that the “wonderful” products from the state could now travel all over the nation.

    The 111 km long and Rs 14,000-crore project from Jiribam to the state capital of Imphal was sanctioned in 2013. The railway track traverses the hill districts of Noney and Tamenglong.

    The Kaimei Railway Station was renamed the 'Rani Gaidinliu Railway Station' to honor the legendary freedom fighter, who had revolted against the British.
