Digital Desk: A case has been filed against four fishermen who are accused of accidentally catching and eating a dolphin from the Yamuna River, police stated on Monday. They stated that one of the fishermen was taken into custody when the police learned about a purported video of the incident that went viral on social media on Sunday.

Naseerpur village fishermen were fishing in the Yamuna in the morning of July 22 when a dolphin got trapped in a net, Shravan Kumar Singh, the Station Officer of Pipri stated.

The dolphin was taken out of the river by them, and they carried it on their shoulders to a residence where they cooked and ate it, Singh said.

The SHO stated that the forest ranger noted in his complaint that some bystanders recorded the fishermen as they were carrying away the dolphin.

According to the police, a case under the Wildlife Protection Act (1972) has been filed against Ranjeet Kumar, Sanjay, Deevan, and Baba following the ranger's complaint.

The SHO stated that Ranjeet Kumar has been arrested and is being interrogated, adding that efforts are being made to apprehend the other accused.
