Digital Desk: Former prime minister Manmohan Singh arrived at the Parliament in a wheelchair in order to participate in the crucial Rajya Sabha discussion on the Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi (Amendment) Bill, 2023.
The National Capital Territory of Delhi's government is given power under the bill to make rules on its affairs, including those including the functions, terms, and other conditions of service of officers and employees.
The Congress party has extended a three-line whip to all of its members of parliament requesting that they attend Monday's Rajya Sabha session. Congress announced in a notification dated August 4 that "Very Important Issues Will Be Taken Up For Discussion In The Rajya Sabha Tomorrow, i.e. Monday, August 7, 2023."
It further stated that "all Rajya Sabha members of the Congress party kindly remain present in the House from 11:00 A.M. onward until the adjournment of the House on Monday, August 7, 2023, without fail and support the party stand." It was added that this should be given priority.
A resolution opposing the ordinance that the government introduced in May of this year was presented by opposition members, prompting Union Home Minister Amit Shah to move the Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi (Amendment) Bill, 2023, for passage in the House and the Lok Sabha approved the bill last week.
Opposition parties, who are in I.N.D.I.A bloc is opposed to the bill. The bill is undergoing an orderly debate in the House. The opposition's demand for a thorough discussion of the situation in Manipur and a statement from Prime Minister Narendra Modi has resulted in frequent interruptions in Rajya Sabha during the monsoon session of Parliament.
