Government expands PAN-Aadhaar link deadline till June 30; Declares Ministry of Finance
The government has extended the deadline for linking Permanent Account Numbers (PANs) with Aadhaar to June 30...

Digital Desk: The government has extended the deadline for linking Permanent Account Numbers (PANs) with Aadhaar to June 30, 2023, according to a notification from the Ministry of Finance on Tuesday.

Before, the deadline for linking PAN to Aadhaar was March 31, 2023.

According to Subsection (2) of Section 139AA of the Income-tax Act of 1961, it is mandatory for anyone who has been assigned a PAN as of July 1, 2017, to provide his Aadhaar Number so that the Aadhaar and PAN can be linked.

Following significant delays, the government announced June 30, 2023, as the final date for linking PAN with Aadhaar.

The PAN of taxpayers who have neglected to notify their Aadhaar number as required will become inactive on July 1, 2023. The PAN, on the other hand, can be made operational again in 30 days by informing the prescribed authority and paying a cost of Rs 1,000, as stated by the government.

Those whose PANs become inoperative, according to the Finance Ministry, will not receive any refunds; interest on such refunds will not be due for the period during which the PAN is inoperative; and TDS and TCS will be deducted/collected at a higher rate, as stated in the Act.

As per Ministry of Finance reports, more than 51 crore PANs had already been linked with Aadhaar as of March 28.

Here's how to link your PAN to your Aadhaar:

    1| Open Income Tax e-filing website - https://incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in/

2| Sign up for it (if not already done). Your user id will be your PAN (Permanent Account Number).

3| Sign in by entering your User ID, password, and birth date.

4| A window will pop up requesting that you link your PAN with your Aadhaar. If not, navigate to 'Profile Settings' on the Menu bar and select 'Link Aadhaar'.

5| Information such as name, date of birth, and gender will already be included in the PAN information.

6| Compare the PAN details on the screen to those on your Aadhar card.
Please keep in mind that if there is a mismatch, it must be addressed in both documents.

7| If the details match, enter your Aadhaar number and click the "link now" button.

8| A pop-up notice will notify you that your Aadhaar has been successfully linked to your PAN.
