Government may stop sale of single cigarettes, here’s why
The selling of loose cigarettes, according to the Standing Committee of Parliament, is having an impact on efforts to reduce tobacco usage.

Digital Desk: If you smoke and like to buy loose cigarettes, this information is for you. The government intends to make it prohibited to sell single cigarettes to decrease the usage of tobacco products. The Standing Committee of Parliament allegedly recommended against selling single cigarettes to decrease tobacco use.

A ban on the selling of single cigarettes has reportedly been recommended by the Standing Committee of Parliament to decrease tobacco use.

On the recommendation of the Health Ministry, the Central Government banned the use and sale of e-cigarettes three years ago.

The Standing Committee of Parliament claims that the sale of loose cigarettes is affecting the effort to combat tobacco use.

As recommended by the WHO, the Indian government should impose a 75% GST on tobacco products. According to the most recent tax slabs, the nation charges a 22% GST on bidis, a 53% GST on cigarettes, and a 64% GST on smokeless tobacco.

Despite the implementation of the GST, the standing committee has observed that the tax on tobacco products has not increased much.

The committee emphasised that drinking alcohol and using smoke both increase the risk of getting cancer.

In India, smoking is already not permitted in public areas. If breaking the law, a fine of up to Rs 200 may be issued. Advertisements for tobacco products are also forbidden by the government.
