Digital Desk: According to News18.com, the Indian government has started the process of 'urgently' banning and restricting 94 lending applications and approximately 138 betting apps with connections to China.
According to News18.com, the Union Home Ministry communicated with the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY).
The Union Home Ministry began examining 28 Chinese credit lending apps six months ago. However, it was found that 94 apps are accessible through online storefronts, while others function via links from other parties.
According to News18, Telangana, Odisha, and Uttar Pradesh asked the Home Ministry to take action against such apps together with the central intelligence agencies.
According to News18, the action was taken after it was established that these apps fall under Section 69 of the IT Act because they include "information which is detrimental to the sovereignty and integrity of India."
