Digital Desk: Two men were arrested by Gujarat Police for allegedly posing as members of the Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) and robbing a man of gold worth Rs 50 lakh that he had smuggled into the nation from Dubai.
The complainant Danish Sheikh told the police that, on October 9, he went to Dubai at the invitation of a Vadodara acquaintance who booked his lodging and airfares. An officer stated that the person gave him Rs 20,000 for the smuggling of gold.
Sheikh allegedly landed at Ahmedabad airport early on October 28 and had two gold capsules hidden in his rectum. Once he had been processed through immigration, he strolled to the airport parking area, where a vehicle that his friend had sent was waiting to transport him to Vadodara.
The complainant was about to get inside the vehicle when two men posing as ATS personnel arrived, as per the FIR. They pushed to take him to the ATS office and intimidated him, saying they knew about the gold being smuggled.
After driving the van to a remote area, the accused was told to get into a vehicle. Sheikh was driven to a high-rise building and shown to an apartment on the tenth floor. There, according to the FIR, he was beaten and forced to remove the gold pills that were hidden in his rectum.
Together with some cash, the two took possession of 850 gm of gold pills that were worth Rs 50 lakh. They then drove an autorickshaw to a bus station and dropped off the complaint there.
The official stated that a formal complaint (FIR) has been made against unnamed persons under provisions of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) pertaining to criminal intimidation, robbery, kidnapping, and impersonation of a public officer that resulted in harm.
Police Sub-Inspector RH Pandav said that the complainant put off reporting the event out of fear and that investigations are presently being conducted.
