Himachal Pradesh: Six Disqualified Congress MLAs joined BJP

Digital Desk: Six disqualified MLAs resigned from Congress and joined the BJP in the presence of Union Minister Anurag Thakur on Saturday, three resigned from the Congress yesterday. Anurag Thakur said that they became BJP members because they saw the development of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. 

The Congress may have salvaged its Himachal Pradesh administration following the recent Rajya Sabha election catastrophe in which its candidate was shockingly defeated. Still, the Sukhwinder Singh Suku government's problems in the state need to be solved. Three independent MLAs who voted for the BJP's nominee in the Rajya Sabha elections have resigned and joined the party.

Six former Himachal Pradesh MLAs, including Sudhir Sharma, Ravi Thakur, Inder Dutt Lakhanpal, Devendra Bhutto, Rajendra Rana, and Chaitanya Sharma, joined the Bharatiya Janata Party on Saturday, in the presence of Union Minister Anurag Thakur and State BJP Chief Rajiv Bindal. 

They are considering withdrawing their Supreme Court petition, in which they disputed the Assembly Speaker's decree disqualifying them.

The byelections for six Assembly seats in Himachal Pradesh, which have become vacant due to the disqualification of Congress MLAs, will take place on June 1 alongside the Lok Sabha elections, according to the state's Chief Electoral Officer, Maneesh Garg. The votes will be counted on June 4.
