Hostel warden sexually assaults 21 children in Arunachal’ Shiyomi

Digital desk: As many as 21 children aged between 6 to 14 years were sexually assaulted by the hostel warden in the Shiyomi district of Arunachal Pradesh, Superintendent of Police (SP), SIT, Rohit Rajbir Singh stated on Wednesday.

Regarding an eight-month-old complaint of sexual molestation at the Government Residential School in the Shiyomi district of Arunachal, the SP conducted a press conference at the police headquarters in Itanagar.

The accused has been identified as 33-year-old Yomken Bagra.

"This incidence of child sexual assault was reported in Monigaon, Shiyomi district, in November 2022. The hostel warden was accused of sexually assaulting two twin sisters inside the hostel, according to an earlier complaint. The initial complaint was filed on November 1st, 2022. A case was reported In Tato, the Shiyomi district's headquarters town where the initial investigation was done,” the Special Police Officer (SP) stated during the press conference as the case was later moved to the Special Investigation Team (SIT), led by Deputy SP Moyir Basar Kamdak. 

According to Singh, the culprit was a school's hostel warden in Monigaon. There may have been more victims of his abuse throughout his time as a warden there from 2014 to 2022, but 21 victims both male and female aged between 6 and 14 years old have come forward after two sisters filed complaints against the matter. 

He added that he had a chargesheet filed against the accused under several provisions of the POCSO Act, section 376 AB.

The SP also exhorted the victims to come forward, assuring them that the police would maintain the secrecy of their identities, ''We want to give justice to all victims of this serious heinous offence. Out of these 21 victims, six children were victims of aggravated penetrative sexual assault continuously. Other male and female students got sexually assaulted by this accused in different manners''. 

According to the SP, the accused also showed them pornographic videos, and the police found pornographic videos on the phones of the accused. 

He claimed that “the accused is currently free on bail. We anticipate that the court will conduct the trial soon and these crimes had been occurring for the last six years.”
