India to reach 100 cr vaccine doses; Union Health Minister to launch song

New Delhi: To commemorate the milestone of administering 100 crore covid-19 vaccine doses in the country, Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya will release a film and a song on Thursday (October 21).

Reportedly, the launching ceremony will be held at the Red Fort in the national capital.

So far, 99.12 crore vaccines have been administered under India’s vaccination drive and the rest of the figure is likely to be complete on Thursday, the official report said.

Mandaviya tweeted in Hindi, “The country is close to making a vaccine century. To be a part of this golden opportunity, I appeal to the citizens who are yet to be vaccinated to contribute to the historic golden vaccination journey of India by getting vaccinated immediately.”

Earlier, the minister informed that the announcement of its success will be made on ships, airplanes, railways stations and metros.

However, a Bloomberg report stated, “While it is likely to hit the billion-doses mark this week, the country has only given two shots to 20 percent of its population of about 1.4 billion, according to Bloomberg’s vaccine tracker. By comparison, 51 percent have had a single dose, making it one of the highest disparities in the world, the tracker shows”.

India started its vaccination campaign against the deadly disease on January 16, 2021.

According to the official record, almost 75 percent of the adult population have been administered the first dose and around 31 percent have received both doses till now.
