Digital Desk: Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has launched a scathing attack on Rahul Gandhi, claiming that his expulsion from Parliament was 'Karma striking him back' for disobeying the ordinance enacted by then-Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in 2013 to protect convicted MPs from immediate disqualification.

"As far as disqualification is concerned, if Karma strikes him back, where is our fault?. In Hinduism, we think that Karma retaliates. When Manmohan Singh was Prime Minister, he issued an ordinance stating that an MP should not be disqualified instantly, but Rahul Gandhi disregarded it," CM Sarma said.

In reference to the case involving Rahul Gandhi's use of the Modi surname, he said, "You go and directly ask the OBC leaders of the Congress whether they are happy? Who will be happy? Giving a statement is one thing, but will someone appreciate it if it is stated that the entire society is a thief? This is nothing more than an individual's pride endangering the dignity of a specific community. The judiciary has acted correctly. If you disagree with the judiciary's ruling, appeal to a higher court."

In response to Rahul Gandhi's refusal to apologize, Sarma stated, "We also do politics, and sometimes we may say a couple of wrong words, but that is not a big deal, but immediately after that, either the party men remind you that you have said something wrong, or we ourselves realize that we shouldn't have said that. In such cases, we typically issue a press statement or appear in front of the media to apologize."

"In the last five years, Rahul Gandhiji has not apologized to anyone."This apology was not intended for Narendra Modi ji, but for the broader OBC community. Even after the court's decision, Rahul Gandhi is sitting like a fighter jet, declaring, "I will fight the judiciary now." If you believe that only you have pride, consider that the OBC community in our nation has pride as well. This is reality, and there is no politics involved," the CM added.

"You are an opposition leader, and you are not barred from attending any meeting. There is no prohibition on holding rallies, meetings, or participating in the Bharat Jodo Yatra, but you must refrain from making such derogatory remarks about any group," the CM further stated.

Earlier on Thursday, Rahul Gandhi was disqualified from the Lok Sabha after a Surat court convicted him in a defamation case.

According to a notice given by the Lok Sabha Secretariat, he was disqualified from the House from March 23, the day of his conviction. He must now petition a higher judge to have his conviction overturned.
