The promise made in the Congress manifesto to ban the Bajrang Dal became a flashpoint in the Karnataka Assembly Elections.
Digital Desk: Latest updates on the Karnataka Assembly Elections 2023: The Congress celebrated its big electoral victory in Karnataka by mocking the BJP over the 'Bajrang Dal ban' issue. The Congress, in an apparent dig at the BJP, shared an image of Lord Hanuman on Twitter, complete with a map of Karnataka and the Congress symbol. "Jai Bajrangbali, tod di bhrashtachar ki nali" (broke corruption's spine) was the caption.
The promise made in the Congress manifesto to ban the Bajrang Dal became a flashpoint in the Karnataka Assembly Elections.
The Congress' manifesto vow prompted a major uproar in the state, as 'I am Bajrangi' banners surfaced, asking authorities to "ban and arrest" them. BJP leaders took advantage of the Congress promise, criticising the grand old party and supporting Bajrang Dal. During Karnataka campaigning, BJP leaders shouted 'Jai Bajrangbali' at road shows and rallies. However, the technique appears to have yielded disappointing results for the BJP.
The Congress Party is on set for a resounding victory in Karnataka, having easily passed the halfway point required to create majority management in the 224-seat Assembly. According to the most recent Election Commission (EC) estimates, the Congress would end up with roughly 137 seats, more than double the BJP's projected total of 62 seats.
