    Karnataka Polls: 23-yr-old delivers baby at polling booth in Ballari

    The polling panel reported that a total of 94,931 elderly citizens and PwDs cast their vote from home.

    Digital Desk: The Election Commission reported that a 23-year-old pregnant woman who was out to cast her vote in a rare incidence on Wednesday gave birth to a baby at a polling place in Ballari, Karnataka.

    According to the poll panel, the woman was on her way to the Kurlagindi voting place in Ballari to exercise her right to vote in the assembly elections when her water broke and labour pains started.

    It claimed that female authorities and voters helped in the delivery.

    Voter turnout in Karnataka, which held elections on Wednesday, was 65.69% till 5 p.m.

    According to the most recent voter turnout for the 224-member Assembly, Ramanagara had the highest turnout (78.22%) while the lowest turnout (48.63%) was in the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) South boundaries (parts of Bengaluru city).

    The state is primarily witnessing a three-way struggle between the BJP, which is in power, the Congress, and the Janata Dal (Secular), which is led by former prime minister HD Deve Gowda.

    For the first time in Karnataka, voters over 80 and those with a qualifying impairment have access to home voting options. More than 80,000 people who are 80 years of age or older, 19,279 people with disabilities, and 15,328 members of the state's essential service personnel have registered to vote at home.

    The polling panel reported that a total of 94,931 elderly citizens and PwDs cast their vote in the election from home.

    The EC implemented a home voting option for persons who are 80 years of age or older and those who are coronavirus-suffering during the Covid pandemic. Voters in several states have used the home voting option.
