The Principal locked up students who came to complain about the quality of their drinking water in her chamber...
Digital Desk: The Staff Council agreed to close the college until Monday after the SFI conducted a protest demanding the Principal in charge, M Rama's removal on Thursday.
R Bindu, Minister for Higher Education, terminated Kasaragod Government College principal in-charge M Rama on Thursday after a fierce feud with the Students Federation of India (SFI), the CPM's student wing.
The minister stated on Facebook that she had ordered the principal secretary to instruct the director of collegiate education to take procedures to remove Rama from the position.
On Monday, the principal locked up students who came to complain about the quality of their drinking water in her chamber.
In the meeting, Rama declined to resign as principal in-charge but agreed to arrange a meeting of all stakeholders, including student organisations, to resolve the issue on Friday.
Yet, the minister's surgical strike has rendered the meeting nearly obsolete.

For months, Kasaragod Government College has been embroiled in a heated fight between students and "an impolite" principal in-charge Rama.
The most recent argument was Rama's apparent refusal to repair two RO filters on campus.
"In dealing with our problems, the principal in charge has been impolite. We want her to be removed from the position "said Akshay M K, a Department of Arabic student and SFI unit secretary at the college.
On Monday, February 20, students discovered muddy drinking water from the two RO filters. (In 2019-2020, the PTA sponsored two water filters, which are installed in a run-down part of the institution.) At the Principal's Chamber, about 15 SFI students raised the issue with Rama. "It was filthy water. We requested that the principal have the filter cleaned and the water tested "Akshay stated. He claims she replied she didn't have time for that and urged the students to drink the same water.
She locked the chamber from the outside and left about midday when the students refused to leave the principal's office. She then arrived at 2 p.m.
The police were afterwards summoned, and the principal in charge reportedly agreed to provide the water sample for testing by 10 a.m. on Tuesday.
"We went to see her again when that did not happen. Her attitude, on the other hand, was appalling "Akshay stated.
Rama can be heard saying in a video shared by the students: "You fled in humiliation yesterday. You will be humiliated once more today."
She allegedly told students that they had no right to sit and talk to her.
She insisted on students standing and addressing her.
The students then placed a sticker on the RO filter indicating that the water was unsafe to drink.
On Wednesday, the sticker went gone. The students spent their time writing to Higher Education Minister R Bindu and Kannur University Vice-Chancellor Prof. Gopinath Ravindran, requesting that Rama be removed as principal in-charge.
They also wrote to the Kerala State Youth Commission and the State Human Rights Commission.
On Thursday, supporters of the SFI staged a rally calling for Rama to be removed as principal in charge.
