Digital Desk: A houseboat with more than 30 occupants on board overturned and drowned on Sunday near the Thoovaltheeram beach in the Tanur area of Kerala's Malappuram district, killing 21, including women and children, the state government said.
According to information from several hospitals where individuals who were hauled out of the water and into the boat were admitted, sports minister V Abdurahiman claimed that 21 deaths had been confirmed.
According to Abdurahiman, four people in serious condition have been admitted to this Kottakkal hospital. The minister continued, "Of the 21 structures, 15 have been identified." More bodies are anticipated to be retrieved from within the boat, he said, adding that it is already being carried ashore.
Abdurahiman said many of those killed were women and children who had come for a ride during the ongoing summer break. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has condoled the deaths and announced an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh to the next of kin of each victim.

An ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh from PMNRF (Prime Minister's National Relief Fund) would be provided to the next of kin of each deceased," Modi was quoted as saying in a tweet by the Prime Minister's Office
Rahul Gandhi, the leader of the Congress, expressed sorrow for the victims of the accident. Following the incident, the state administration announced that Veena George, the minister of health, has convened an urgent meeting to review the situation.
Together with PA Mohamed Riyas, the tourism minister, Abdurahiman is overseeing the rescue efforts. Additionally, the district collector was given the go-ahead to conduct a coordinated emergency rescue operation by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan.
