"Killed Shraddha in the heat of the moment": Aftab Poonawala tells court

Aftab Poonawala, who is suspected of killing and dismembering Shraddha Walkar, will likely undergo a polygraph test on...

Digital Desk: Aftab Poonawala's police custody was extended for four more days by Delhi's Saket court on Tuesday after he was produced before the court via video conference. He also stated in court that he is cooperating with the investigation and is having difficulty recalling the entire incident. Sources quoted that Aftab Poonawala confessed to killing Shraddha Walkar and stated that he "committed the crime in a fit of rage." Walkar was murdered by Aaftab Poonawala, 28, who sawed her body into 35 pieces and dumped the body parts across the city over several days past midnight, police said.

Aftab Poonawala, who is suspected of killing and dismembering Shraddha Walkar, will likely undergo a polygraph test on Tuesday, according to the Delhi Police.

The police now intend to recover the alleged murder weapon as well as Shraddha's skull, clothes, and phone. So far, the police have only recovered a few bones. Keeping security in view, Aftab was on Tuesday again presented before the court via videography.

Police have also recorded statements from two men in Palghar, Maharashtra, from whom Shraddha Walkar sought help after she was assaulted by the accused in 2020, police said.

    CBI will take charge?

A PIL was filed in the Delhi High Court on Monday seeking a directive to transfer the investigation into the Shraddha Walkar murder case from the Delhi Police to the CBI, claiming that the presence of journalists and the public at areas of recovery amounts to evidence tampering.

The plea, which is expected to be heard on Wednesday, claims that the Delhi Police have so far revealed every detail of the investigation to the media and public, which is not permitted by law.

It claimed that the suspected location of the incident has not been sealed by the Delhi Police and is still being accessed by public and media.
