Digital Desk: Kiren Rijiju took over as Earth Sciences Minister on Friday and thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for giving him the opportunity to handle various ministries.
Rijiju, who was dismissed as Law Minister on Thursday, declined to address questions regarding his previous ministry, claiming that they were no longer relevant and that he was looking forward to serve in the Earth Sciences Ministry.
"Don't ask questions about the previous ministry because they are no longer relevant," Rijiju replied when asked if he was fired as Law Minister because of his numerous conflicts with the judiciary.
Rijiju took charge of the office as Minister of Earth Sciences in the presence of the Director General of the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Mrityunjay Mohapatra and Vishwajit Sahay, Additional Secretary and Financial Advisor.
Senior ministry officials, including Secretary M. Ravichandran, were in Diu for the G-20 Research and Innovation Initiative Gathering (RIIG) Conference.
