'Had faith in Mamata, but no more': Kolkata rape victim's father slams West Bengal CM
The doctor’s mother advised others to be cautious before benefiting from state schemes like Kanyashree and Lakshmi, stressing the importance of ensuring their own daughters' safety first.

Digital Desk: The parents of the young doctor who was raped and murdered at Kolkata's RG Kar Medical College have voiced their dissatisfaction with Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. As reported by NDTV, they have lost faith in her leadership due to the police’s handling of the case. The doctor’s father remarked that although the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is making some effort, the state has been largely inactive. He revealed that he provided a page from his daughter's diary to the CBI but did not disclose its contents.

The report notes that the father initially had faith in Mamata Banerjee but now feels deeply disappointed. He criticized the state for professing a commitment to justice while failing to take meaningful action. He also highlighted the repressive measures faced by the public, citing a police lathi charge on supporters during a football match.

The doctor’s mother advised others to be cautious before benefiting from state schemes like Kanyashree and Lakshmi, stressing the importance of ensuring their own daughters' safety first.

The doctor, a second-year postgraduate student, was found dead after completing a 36-hour shift. She had gone to rest in an empty seminar room due to the hospital’s lack of an on-call room. Her partially clothed body, which bore multiple injuries, was discovered the following morning.

Sanjoy Roy, a civic volunteer with Kolkata Police, is the prime suspect in the case. He was arrested after CCTV footage showed him entering the building and reportedly confessed to the crime during police interrogation.
