Manish Sisodia, the deputy to Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal, is accused of corruption in the adoption of a new liquor sale policy...
Digital Desk: Manish Sisodia, the Deputy Chief Minister of Delhi, requested a week's notice to appear for questioning in the liquor policy case this morning.
He told reporters that he was now compiling the Delhi government's Budget for 2023-24 as the AAP government's finance minister.
"As the Finance Minister of Delhi, drafting the budget is very crucial, hence I have sought to alter the date. "I have always worked with these agencies," Sisodia explained.
Sisodia was summoned to the national capital's Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) office today for interrogation on the Delhi liquor excise policy issue.
Sisodia shared the information on Twitter and claimed that the full might of central authorities was being deployed against him. He also stated that he will continue to cooperate with the investigation agency, as he has done previously.
Mr Sisodia and others have been accused of corruption in the development of a new excise policy that favoured a group in the allocation of retail liquor licences in Delhi.
The CBI has stated that it is now focusing on the alleged involvement of a "South India Lobby" of businesspeople and politicians in swaying Delhi liquor policy in their favour through bribes to intermediaries and bureaucrats at the top.
The Excise Policy 2021-22 was revoked by the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) administration last year after a CBI investigation was suggested by Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena into "violation of rules and breaches".
Earlier on Saturday, Sisodia tweeted that he had been summoned for interrogation yet again and that he would continue to cooperate with the probe. "CBI has requested another call tomorrow. They employed the complete force of the CBI and ED against me, raided my residence, checked my bank locker, and found nothing against me "He stated. "I have tried to bring good education to Delhi's youngsters, and they want to halt it," he added. Throughout the searches, Sisodia stated that nothing was discovered against him.
In August of last year, the CBI filed an FIR in a special court against Sisodia and 14 individuals under different sections of the Indian Criminal Code (IPC), including 120B (criminal conspiracy) and 477A (falsification of records), as well as section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act.
It is claimed that the Delhi government's policy of granting liquor licences favoured particular sellers who allegedly paid bribes for it. The claims, however, have been dismissed by the AAP leaders.
