Modi government should compensate the farmers, if there is no list take from us: Rahul

New Delhi: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi slammed the Modi-led central government over the unwillingness to compensate families of the farmers who died during the farmer’s protest.

Demanding compensation for the families of the 700 farmers, Rahul said that we would provide the list to the government if they didn’t have it.

“If the government doesn’t have the data, we will provide it. We have the list of the farmers who had died in the farmer’s protest,” said Rahul.

Earlier, in response to a series of questions related to farmer’s protests, Union Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar told Parliament that the center has “no record” of farmers who lost their lives during the over-year-long protests.

Further, Tomar said due to lack of records, the question doesn’t arise on providing compensation to the families of those who died during the protest.

Notably, Rahul brandished a list of 403 dead farmers from Congress-ruled Punjab and another list of 200-odd dead farmers from other states and challenged the centre to act on demands for their families to be compensated.

“We have done the homework on behalf of the BJP. The list of names would be tabled in the next session of Parliament,” he said.

Rahul claimed that they had all the details of the farmers who died in the protest.

Branding Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the center’s actions’ cowardly’ Rahul said that the truth is that the BJP government already has the list but finds it difficult to compensate it to the families of the farmers.

For more than a year, the farmers of the country have been protesting in the nation’s borders, demanding to repeal the three farm laws before they were repealed this week after PM Modi’s dramatic announcement to withdraw them.

Many died during the protests, which included several violent clashes with police. Still more died during the months-long blockade of the national capital.
