Digital Desk: The onset of the southwest monsoon over Kerala is predicted to be delayed slightly, and it is projected to arrive by June 4, as stated by the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

With a standard deviation of roughly 7 days, the southwest monsoon was anticipated to arrive over Kerala on June 1.

"The onset of the southwest monsoon over Kerala this year is likely to be slightly delayed." The monsoon season is expected to begin over Kerala on June 4, with a model error of four days, according to the Met Office.

The monsoon arrived in the southern state on May 29 last year, June 3 in 2021, and June 1 in 2020.

The arrival of the southwest monsoon across the Indian mainland is signified by the onset over Kerala, which is an important indicator of the change from the hot and dry season to the rainy season.

Despite the emerging El Nino conditions, India is anticipated to receive normal rainfall throughout the southwest monsoon season, according to the IMD.

Rainfed agriculture is a key component of India's agricultural environment, accounting for 52% of the net cultivated area. It accounts for over 40% of total food production in India, making it a critical contributor to food security and economic stability.
