Digital Desk: Today marks the 15th anniversary of the heinous Mumbai terror strikes by Pakistani terrorists in 2008. The heartbreaking terrorist attack in India's financial location, Mumbai, on November 26, 2008, is still fresh in the nation's mind as the date returns for the 15th time on Sunday (November 26) since the devastating attack on the country's soul by ten Pakistani terrorists 15 years ago.

Every year on this date, the terrorists unleashed mayhem on the streets of Mumbai, sending shockwaves throughout the country and around the world. Terrorists from the Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) entered Mumbai on the night of November 26, 2008, killing 166 people, including foreign nationals, and injuring many more over four days.

Going back to the black day for the nation, it was the day when the Taj and Oberoi Hotels, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus, the Jewish centre at Nariman House, and the Leopold Cafe were all carefully chosen by Pakistani terrorists to cause the most damage. These locations were visited by Europeans, Indians, and Jews. Terrorists wielding automatic guns and hand grenades attacked citizens at several locations in Mumbai's southern outskirts, including the famed Leopold Cafe, two hospitals, and a theatre.

Three railway officers were also slain in the Mumbai CST incident, in which Ajmal Kasab and Ismail Khan opened fire indiscriminately.

Nine of the ten LeT terrorists were killed, while Mumbai Police kept Mohammad Ajmal Amir Qasab alive at the Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus railway station. Tukaram Omble saved Kasab before he was killed by the terrorist. He was posthumously given the Ashok Chakra for his gallantry.

Major Sandeep Unnikrishnan was among the several security personnel killed in the Mumbai attack, including two NSG commandos.

One fact that remained uncovered during the attack was that the then-National Security Guard (NSG) leader, Jyoti Krishan Dutt, who led the elite commando team during the operation, continued to serve even after learning that one of his relatives had been slain in the attack by the terrorists.

Kasab, who admitted to being a Pakistani citizen and a member of LeTm during interrogation, was sentenced to death and hung two years later in the highest security jail in Pune.

The scars left by the Mumbai terror attacks linger in the minds of those who experienced the dreadful days and nights in and around the hotel, Mumbai as a city, and India as a country.

On the 15th anniversary of the terror attacks, Israel has declared Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) as a terrorist organisation. The measure was carried out without the government of India's request.

To commemorate the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks, a day-long poster show was held at the Broken Chair in front of the UN in Geneva on Friday.

Naor Gilon, the Israeli ambassador to India, praised the decision and called the prohibition on LeT the "right thing."  Today he took his words to X handle posting a photo where the names of those brave souls are engraved. "15 years since the #MumbaiTerrorAttack💔 #UnitedWeStand" he tweeted.

We are demonstrating in front of the UN building in Geneva today. Human rights activist Priyajit Debsarkar, who organised the show, stated, "We have displayed a lot of balance here to commemorate the costly and terrible barbaric terror attacks which rocked Mumbai, the Indian financial epicentre, 15 years ago."

The country honours those who sacrificed their lives to free Mumbai from terrorists who had besieged the city on November 26.
