Digital Desk: The rising number of Omicron cases in Mumbai has raised the government's concerns. Due to this issue, Mumbai imposes Section 144 from December 30 to January 7.
Mumbai police on Thursday stated that prohibitory orders under CrPC section 144 would be imposed in the city ahead of New Year's eve. Under this section, no parities in any spaces, including closed or open, will be entertained.
The order to extend the prohibitory directives was issued amid scaling situations around cases of Omicron variant of Sars-CoV-2 being reported from different parts of the nation.
On Wednesday, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has further restricted New Year celebration schedules and gatherings in any closed or open areas in the city.
In this regard, Mumbai municipal commissioner Iqbal Singh Chahal said, "There shall be no gathering or parties of New Year in any closed or open areas under the BMC jurisdiction."
He added, "Curfew doesn't imply we are closing down everything post 9 pm. We have restricted crowding at public areas such as beaches, parks, marine drive."
On Wednesday, Mumbai has recorded 38 cases of Omicron without any of the patients with international travel history. With these numbers, Mumbai's positivity rate crawled nearer to 5%.
In terms of Covid cases, the city has recorded 2,445 Covid cases on Wednesday. Mumbai's cases were the highest since May 8, when 2,664 cases were registered.

No New Year parties, ceremonies, or other exercises shall be arranged in any closed or open space within the BMC jurisdiction.
Group gatherings or more than five individuals will not be allowed at public places from 9 pm to 6 pm.
Only 100 guests will be allowed for confined wedding ceremonies, including social, political programs.
Also, only 25% of seating accommodation is permitted at venues of sports events.
All suitable citizens should meet their Covid-19 vaccination. Only those vaccinated will be permitted in public places.
