    Digital Desk : A total of 117 Indian athletes participated in the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris, France which took place from 6 July to 11 August, 2024. India won six medals - a silver and 5 bronze. The Paris Olympics, 2024 will be memorable for Indian sports lovers as Manu Bhaker became the first Indian shooter to win two medals at a single Olympics. Javelin star Neeraj Chopra secured silver in the Men's javelin throw event. The men's hockey team secured a bronze medal in the Men's event by defeating Spain. 21-year-old
    wrestler Aman Sehrawat claimed bronze and became the youngest Indian to win an Olympic medal. Manu also won a bronze in the mixed 10 m air pistol category along with Sarabjot Singh. Swapnil Kusale won bronze in the men's 50 m rifle three-position event.

      
    Indian Paralympic athletes have delivered extraordinary performances in the year 2024. This year's Paralympics was held in Paris where India secured 29 medals across 12 events - 7 gold, 9 silver, and 13 bronze. It is India's most successful Paralympic campaign in the Paralympics history. China tops the medal tally with a total of 220 medals. India clinched the 18th position in the Paralympic medal tally.  


    India lifted T20 World Cup Trophy for the second time this year. India beat South Africa by 7 runs to emerge as the champions. Jasprit Bumrah became the Player of the Tournament. India secured their second T20 World Cup title after a wait of 17 year.


    India's Tennis star Rohan Bopanna created history in 2024. Bopanna became the oldest player to win a Grand Slam title after winning the Australian Open, 2024 with his Australian partner Matthew Ebden.  


    Riyan Parag's debut as an Indian cricketer in July 2024 is another remarkable moment for the sports enthusiasts of Assam. He played his first international match against Zimbabwe.


    D. Gukesh brought pride to India as he won the FIDE World Championship held in Singapore. He defeated Ding Liren of China creating history by becoming the youngest Chess World Champion. A whopping amount of Rs 11.45 crore was also awarded to him. The Finance Ministry also announced tax exemption to him.


    The controversy over Vinesh Phogat's disqualification in the Paris Olympics was another headlines of the year, 2024. Her disqualification ahead of the final also made India lose a much-anticipated gold in wrestling event. Later Vinesh joined politics and was elected as a Congress MLA from the Julana constituency of Haryana.


    After winning the T20 World Cup, India's star cricketers Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma and Ravindra Jadeja announced their retirement from T20 cricket.
