Digital Desk: Addressing the 9th National Handloom Day celebration today at Bharat Mandapam in Pragati Maidan, Delhi PM Modi said that the schemes that have been initiated in the textile sector bring justice to weavers and artisans.
On the eve of National Handloom Day, the Prime Minister also urged people to their commitment to promote local products. The government is offering loans without guarantees and providing raw materials for the handloom weavers in order to develop the handloom business.
Speaking of the GEM platform, he claimed that now every small enterprise can immediately sell their project on GEM. He continued by saying that 1.75 lakh MSMEs are currently linked to the GEM platform.
He added that the government is looking to set up "Ekta Malls" throughout the nation in order to boost sales of handicraft items from all other states.
PM Modin said through the 'One District, One Product' project, an initiative which has been launched to promote the unique items of various districts. Modi stated that there are now 600 textile industries open across the nation, and the textile sector has grown to a value of 1 lakh 30 thousand crore rupees.
During the program, Modi introduced the Bhartiya Vastra evam Shilp Kosh's 'e-portal', a repository of textiles and crafts created by the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT).
Over 3000 handloom and khadi weavers, artisans, and stakeholders from the textile and MSME sectors attended the program.
The first National Handloom Day was celebrated on August 7, 2015. The day was specially chosen as a tribute to the Swadeshi Movement, which had supported indigenous industries, particularly handloom weavers, and had been established on August 7, 1905.
