Nitish Kumar announces Rs 4 lakh compensation for all hooch victims since 2016
The BJP, which is currently in opposition in the state, claimed this as a success for its ongoing pressure on the government to compensate the families of those killed in hooch incidents.

Digital Desk: Nitish Kumar, the chief minister of Bihar, made the announcement today in the wake of the most recent 26 hooch deaths in East Champaran. Bihar will pay Rs 4 lakh in compensation to the families of all those who have died in the state since 2016 after consuming poisonous liquor.

According to Kumar, the state government will offer the victims' family members Rs 4 lakh in compensation if they can show that the victim was a family member and provide details about where the victim purchased the fake alcohol and where it was consumed.

"I am saddened by the deaths that have occurred in Motihari, where many have perished after ingesting deadly alcohol. With retroactive effect beginning in 2016, the government has finally decided to provide compensation to the families of those who passed away in booze-related tragedies. The families will receive compensation of Rs. 4 lakhs, Kumar said.

The BJP, which is currently in opposition in the state, claimed this as a success for its ongoing pressure on the government to compensate the families of those killed in hooch incidents.

"It is our victory. We have been putting constant pressure on the government to compensate the families of those who perished after ingesting hazardous alcohol. The government has now bowed to public pressure and decided to provide compensation," BJP MLA and former minister Neeraj Bablu stated.
