Digital Desk: Congress MP Rahul Gandhi on Thursday demanded that Prime Minister Narendra Modi "clears his name and categorically explain what is going on" with the new allegations leveled against the Adani Group by the Organized Crime and Corruption Reporting Project (OCCRP). Gandhi was speaking in Mumbai ahead of the third meeting of the INDIA bloc.

The Congress leader asked for the formation of a Joint Parliamentary Committee and an in-depth inquiry into the allegations leveled against the Adani Group. "I don't understand why the Prime Minister is not ordering an investigation. Why is he so quiet? Why doesn't he announce that he will look into this matter and put those involved behind bars? This raises serious concerns about the Indian Prime Minister just before the G20 leaders arrive," said Rahul Gandhi.

According to the OCCRP report, "opaque" Mauritius funds were utilized to funnel significant investments into publicly-traded Adani Group stocks, purportedly masking the involvement of business partners associated with the Adani family.

Rahul Gandhi demanded that Prime Minister Modi resolve the matter before the G20 leaders arrive in New Delhi on September 9 and 10. "They (G20 leaders) will be asking what is this special company owned by a gentleman close to the PM and why is this gentleman being given a free ride in an economy like India," said the Congress MP.

In response to charges that members of the Adani family purchased stocks in the Adani Group's own firms in order to boost their share prices, Rahul Gandhi stated, "The mastermind behind this is a gentleman called Vinod Adani, who is the brother of Gautam Adani." There are two other people involved in this money round-tripping. One is a man named Nasser Ali Shaban Ahli, while the other is a Chinese man named Chang Chung-Ling...Why are these two foreign people being permitted to manipulate the valuation of one of the firms that controls practically all of India's infrastructure?"

The Congress leader slammed PM Modi, saying the latter "panics" when the Adani issue is brought up. "The prime minister is highly concerned about these issues. "Whenever you bring up the Adani issue, he becomes very uncomfortable," said Rahul Gandhi.
