    Omicron is spreading faster than expected and it is worrying top global leaders

    New Delhi: The Omicron variant that is fast catching the nerve globally is rising at an unprecedented rate. It has been stated by health officials that the variant spreads 70 times faster than other variants detected till date. India has sounded a high alert after the country witnessed rapid rise in Omicron cases. Omicron case tally now stands at 64 in the country, increasing concerns in India.





    Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Director-General of WHO, on Tuesday said, “Seventy-seven countries have now reported cases of Omicron and the reality is that Omicron is probably in most countries, even if it hasn’t been detected yet. Omicron is spreading at a rate we have not seen with any previous variant.”

    Maharashtra recorded 32 cases till Wednesday, the highest in the country, forcing the government to extend the Covid-safety curbs in Mumbai till December 31 with new rules. The government has banned large public gatherings in Mumbai as well.





    India’s Omicron case tally stood at 73 till Wednesday. Rajasthan was on the list with 17 cases.





    Meanwhile, concerns are rising in European nation as the Omicron variant is soon going to be a ominant variant in the nation within a month. “Scientists around the world are racing to understand Omicron, which has a large number of worrisome mutations in important regions of its genetic structure that could affect how it spreads from person to person.





    CDC Director Rochelle Walensky said Wednesday that early data suggests omicron is more transmissible than delta, with a doubling time of about two days.
